History Of Palani Temple
According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that Sage Narada once visited the court of Lord Shiva in Mount Kailash to greet him with a fruit.
The fruit named gnala-palam, was truly the fruit of knowledge.
Lord Shiva wanted to divide the fruit between his two sons by cutting it in half. But Narada was against it. So Lord Shiva decided to give whoever first circled the whole world thrice.
Murugan/Karthikeya immediately started his world journey in his peacock. However, Ganesha started circling thrice around his parents.
He surmised that his world is no more than his parents Shiva and Shakti combined.
Lord Shiva, impressed by his knowledge, gifted the fruit to Ganesha. Karthikeya completed his journey and came to know the whole story.
Disappointed, Karthikeya, knowing that his efforts were a waste, decided to be more mature.
