History of Mantralayam Temple

Chronologically, Raghavendra Math first came into existence in the 15th century. It descended from Jagadguru Sri Madhvacharya through Vibhudendra Tirtha. The Math was founded by Vibudendra Tirtha in Kumbakonam.

Ramachandra Tirtha’s disciples are Vidyanidhi Tirtha and Vibudendra Tirtha. Vidyanidhi Tirtha continued the lineage of Uttaradi Matha, and Vibudendra Tirtha continued the lineage of Dakshinadi Math in Kumbakonam.

This Dakshinadi Math later came to be known as Kumbakonam. Then the Math became populated by Vijayendra Tirtha as Shri Vijayendra Mutt. After Vijayendra, his disciple Raghavendra Tirtha, the most famous figure of Madhvacharya, continued the pontifical lineage. In the recent decade, the Mutt established its headquarters at Mantralayam.
