One of India’s most beautiful temples, Siddhivinayak temple is in Mumbai. Thousands of devotees pay their respects at the two-hundred-year-old temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh.
Dubai Patil helped fund the construction of the temple so that the lord would help her have a child and others who don’t have children. A lake near the temple was dug in the 19th century to help counter the water shortage in the region.

Siddhivinayak Temple History

The roots of the temple date back to the early 1800s, and the construction was funded by a rich and childless woman Deubai Patil, who believed that Lord Ganesh would grant wishes of women without children.
The original structure was a small old brick square and a vault within the temple with a black stone idol of lord Ganesh. There is a legend attached to the temple, where Ramakrishna Jambhekar Maharaj buried two idols in Siddhivinayak as per the directions of his guru.
The local legends say that where the idols were buried grew a tree. The branches of the tree had the image of Svayambhu Ganesha. Later in 1952, a Hanuman Idol was discovered, and a small shrine was made for him and added to the compound.
As the years went by, the local lores spread the fame of the temple everywhere. The temple was renovated in 1990 to fix the construction and make it stronger.
Architecture of Siddhivinayak Temple.
The architect of the temple was named Sharad Athale, the temple was given a new look away from the idol, which was kept as it is. This re-construction resulted from the six-story design which replaced the smaller structure. The new structure was given the addition of a gold-plated Kalash above the central dome.
Thirty-seven other domes are gold-plated and are part of the temple. To construct the temple only the best pink granite and fine marble were used. The temple has multiple gates to enter and the large doors have carvings of Ganesh incarnations.
